Moving Forward

As the blog hopefully turns a corner and ends its ongoing updates on construction, licensing and coming soon promises, we’d like to thank all of you.

I can’t tell you how many people have helped, offered to volunteer or yelled random messages of support while walking or driving by the brewery.  So, we thank all of you who lent a hand physically and those who spewed positive vibes along the way.

With that said, the blog will hopefully focus on new beers, rants on various topics, collaborations and goings on at the new store that we plan to have open at the beginning of October.

With that thought – look for a specialty release called Magnus in the coming weeks.  It’s a big Schwartz beer that will be offered on draft and in 22oz bombers. We’ll let you know where when the time comes.

So as the next chapter rolls in, lets head out and hunt.

Remember to call, email or text as soon as one of you has found it.  773.351.5709 or Gabriel@halfacrebeer.com

Here is today’s clue:

“Couldn’t find the Crier of Little Fort Road, but found a bag instead.  Promptly put the capsule in and left it with the foliage.”

Good luck!  The winner gets some Daisy Cutter 22’s that were bottled today.

Has it been found yet?

When will Daisy Cutter be available for purchase in stores again?

Gabriel said...

Still not found.

I went out this morning. I had a couple of ideas that did not pan out.

I found the plaque, and foliage was abound around but the bag is elusive...

I really think that one of the homeless men in the area may unknowingly be in possession of the bag in which you placed the capsule.

Gabriel said...

It's unlikely that a homeless man has the capsule. Unless they couldn't read. Inside the capule are directions that tell anyone who might find it that they have won. Homelessen love free beer.

A homeless person might love free beer, but he may not have a cell phone to tell you he won it.

Have checked several sites—including the plaque location—to no avail.

Gabriel said...

Ahh yes, good point, but I'm pretty sure all the homeless folk have gone wireless by now.

So at the location that i though it was at there was a giant bush right neer by and there was a Bag! checked inside the bag and there was....... Vomit. I almost lost my lunch trying to find the thing.

Same thing happened to me but my bag's contents smelled suspiciously like urine.

I don't think it's by the plaque, that might be too literal. I think Lincoln Ave. is one of the cross streets, but the other street we're looking for might be focusing on the word "Crier", or what used to be there and is not anymore. My brain hurts.

We tried looking for it Saturday, but in vain.

Wow, I thought it was bad when I found a bag with an empty can of Steel Reserve. But vomit definitely tops it all.

I live a block from the plaque and was scavenging those bushes within 20 minutes of the clue being posted, so I doubt it's there. Plus if all of us can find the plaque... then I think Gabriel can too.

I agree Elaine and went searching in an area near the plaque. I didn't find a bag with the capsule, but I did find a bag with 7 unopened bottles of imported beer. Score!

Anymore Updates? Anybody?

Still confounded. And I'm puzzled by some of the details—why did you place the capsule in the bag "promptly"? Is this a highly conspicuous area? Is the fact that you found a bag part of the clue, or was it merely a piece of trash in the street?

Argh. Someone's gonna get this and I'm going to find out I passed by about five times.

Gabriel said...

When I hide the capsule it's always very prompt. If people see me doing it, then they will either go over and pick it up and declare themselves the winner or they'll likely call the cops because I look suspicious as hell. The bag is just a bag, a random cloaking device that called to me when hiding the capsule.

Would one of the big Xs happen to mark the spot? Actually startled a bunny in my search & thought it might be the harbinger of good fortune - no such luck... Yet.

Well I guess I was the second person to call the people that put on the Lincoln Square Historic Pub Crawl that suspiciously was the day before the clue was published. No dice.

I'm totally stumped.

ok so i thought i had it for sure. I looked up crier and lincoln on google. I found the wine crier in lincoln park. I checke it out it was no longer in business. I thought this was a good sign. Then right next door to where it used to be was a travel store. I was like ok so looked for a crier was not there and found a bag instead. Checked the bushes around the store nothing. Looked in the store and OMG there were bags with flower print on them. I was so excited i was like it is for sure in one of these bags. Nothing i got nothing now i am totally stumped.

I did find a HazMat baggie when I was searching my first location - the capsule wasn't in there, was it? If so, you can keep it! I'm not grabbing a HazMat bag in an area like that, nosirree!

Think I have the location....but is it likely that if it were close to where the German Fest was held this past weekend in Lincoln Square, that it was cleaned up out of the foliage w/ all the beer cuts and other random garbage?

I have been spending so much time wandering around in parks around Dearborn Street (just an idea) that I am getting friendly with some of the folks that live in the parks. I guess I have to share my beer now if I find the capsule.

Thought I had the location... but if was hidden close to where German Fest was held in Lincoln Square this weekend, is it possible it was cleaned up w/ all the beer cups and random garbage that littered the foliage?

I'm having trouble figuring out the whole "couldn't find" part of the clue. I can think of three scenarios: (a) "The Crier" (TC) is in some fixed location, but Gabriel is a bad/lazy looker and couldn't find TC; (b) Gabriel set out with the expectation of finding TC, but TC is mobile or perhaps moved recently, so it wasn't in the spot he expected; or (c) TC is something which used to be in a fixed location, but hasn't been there for quite a while.

Scenario A (e.g. the plaque) seems wrong, because why would he plant the capsule in the vicinity of TC without bothering to find it? Scenario B (e.g. the Wine Crier) seems most likely, although I can't think of many locations that fit this category. I have a few ideas that would fit Scenario C (e.g. historical references), but this again seems implausible, because why would he use the phrase "couldn't find" when he had no expectation of TC actually being there?

What does everyone else think?

Maybe Gabriel read this note about Little Fort Road on earlychicago.com and didn't look too hard for that plaque.

I'm still thinking Lincoln and Fullerton is the place to explore, although it sounds like others have already done that extensively - with some pretty frightening results!

This may be a stretch, but a Margie Crier is the owner of Sine Qua Non, 3417 Lincoln.

Ethan said...

i checked at Sine Qua Non. Found a bag that looked as if it had been bound by hand to some branches but nothing was in it.

Well, I checked in a park close to Lincoln Ave. -- Bauler Park. Ya know, cryer - bawler - bauler. And, you won't find it on Little Fort Rd, but near it. Needless to say, especially with the most recent blog post, I didn't find it.
