On Photon

As many of you know, we sold out our upcoming party, On Photon, this past Friday in record time.

We clearly upset some people and understand why. There's no great way to do this and every option leaves someone at a disadvantage. This is very much a learning process for us and we hope to improve things in a way that closer levels the opportunity for people to join us when having events.

I could go through our reasoning for doing things the way we did, but the bottom line is we thought we'd have tickets long enough and were doing things in a way that anyone who was truly interested could get a crack at them.

We appreciate your comments and will definitely take them into consideration when doing this again.

An online ticket sale would make sense if they were to go on sale during the week. An in person sale would make more sense during a weekend on sale.

Just my two cents.

Tickets for the first party lasted longer, so there's no way you could have known they'd go this quick. No matter when you put tickets on sale, someone who wants to go isn't going to be able to get a ticket. Maybe a lottery next time and/or a smaller ticket limit. 10 is a lot. And maybe some sort of will call list to keep people from re-selling tickets (though I'm not sure if that's a problem).

I just think it's cool that you guys do this to begin with.

Hey, a successful event is all good. Don't be upset just because some folks decide to be douches about it.

Still amazes me that people expect small breweries to run events like Ticketmaster. Mistakes are made, things aren't perfect, and not everyone gets to go. This isn't a Grab Some Buds event, people. Suck it up.

I'd like to go but I can't. Maybe I'll get a growler instead and once again be thankful for the awesome brewers this town has.

Kudos to Half Acre for a gracious response to the criticism.

I was sad not to get tickets, i'd suggest lower limits, weekend sale, or the internet. Maybe next year. Keep brewin'.

Is 2 ticket limit such a sin for next party? The guest keglist for On Photon made me tear up

A 2 ticket limit is likely what we'll do next time. We did 10 this time because the release time was inconvenient for some and we figured that would allow a messenger to come for those who couldn't.

pouya is a champion dingus who wouldnt even go if he had 100 tickets and a way to teleport into the brewery.

in other news, great job on the record sales, yall are a popular bunch.

im just sad that i cant make it, but as someone who does events, it is still awesome that they sold out.

my only concern would be people winding up selling these 'on the black market' later and making a profit that rightfully belongs to Half Acre [punks].

. . . i actually love the idea of keeping the number of tickets to be picked up high, since sending a 'messenger' is a great plan for us working stiffs. the mode of ensuring that the tickets are for real people and not resale is the trick.

congratulations Gabriel and the rest of Half Acre for being a brewing force in Chicago. keep it coming.

I appreciate avoiding the online sales route. It helps keep the party more local and 'of the neighborhood' which, in my opinion, is one of the draws of a microbrewery in the city. Maybe in the future, to avoid alienating 9-5ers, on-site sales can be focused on weekends.

That said, I have a ticket, so I'm pretty pumped to enjoy the fiesta with a few friends who all live in the neighborhood.

i say a 4 ticket min is fair. the event sold out and that is a good thing. give me a break - online sales and then there will be some fee. if you really want to go that bad make time for it otherwise dont complain. in the end everyone will have a good time and the event will be a success

Just make sure you don't sell out of the double daisy cutter at the event so those of us who can't go will be able to get some.

We're not selling Double Daisy at the event. Only pouring it in excess, but no worries Anonymous.
